RUSH Screening

RUSH is a short film directed by Lizzie Atherton that follows artist Ella Merriman as she harvests rush in Somerset’s slow flowing rivers, working with the endangered craft of rush basketry.

Ella’s craft becomes an organic love letter to nature, a reminder that when we are reunited with the land, we find belonging and remember practices we didn’t know we’d forgotten. Ella reflects on our culture of abundance and overconsumption, identifying that her endangered craft offers a way to return to our innate knowledge of weaving, making and mending – finding a sense of belonging within a forgotten material.

Friday evening saw a small intimate audience of craft lover's join us in the gallery's beautiful Sky room for a screening of the film followed by a Q&A.
