FREE CPD Workshop for Teachers

The Art of Kantha with Tanvi Kant
Wednesday 12 June, 4–7pm

Join artist Tanvi Kant to discuss Milton Keynes Arts Centre's recent schools resource project celebrating South Asian heritage, developed in partnership with Falconhurst School students and teachers, and artists Kajal Nisha Patel, Vasundhara Sellamutha, Mansi Shouche and Tanvi Kant.


What to expect

A presentation and talk by Tanvi on the art and traditions of Kantha, followed by a practical session. Tanvi will introduce Kantha inspired embroidery through simple stitching. This technique can be taught and used creatively along with collage and assemblage techniques across the primary curriculum as well as to explore re-use and upcycling with older children.

· Reuse and repurposing of fabrics

· Hand-stitching, tracing, layering fabrics

· Floral symbolism, Indian philosophy and mythology

· Geometric patterns – Islamic patterns

· Repair of clothing and home textiles
